Choosing Duralex coffee glasses

Duralex has made tempered glass tableware in France since 1945, at its factory in La Chapelle-Saint-Mesmin near Orléans. The glass is heated and then cooled rapidly. This toughens the surface, so it stands up better to knocks and to the thermal shock of hot coffee going into the glass.

Picardie or Provence

Picardie is the classic faceted tumbler. It has been made since 1954 and is still Duralex's best-known glass. Provence is a second Duralex tumbler shape in the same toughened glass. Both are designed to stack without jamming, which helps on a crowded bench or an office shelf.

Espresso or latte size

The 90 ml espresso glasses (Picardie and Provence) suit a short black, a double shot or a macchiato. The latte glasses (Picardie and Provence) take a latte or flat white with room for textured milk. All four come in boxes of six.

Buying for a café or office

If you are fitting out a café, kitchenette or staff room, every glass comes in a box of six, and orders over $200 ship free Australia-wide. While you are ordering, stock up on coffee beans.

FAQs

Are Duralex glasses good for hot coffee?

Yes. Duralex glass is tempered: it is heated and then cooled quickly, which toughens the surface. The Australian distributor describes the Picardie and Provence tumblers as resistant to mechanical and thermal shock and suitable for hot or cold drinks. That makes them a long-standing café choice for espresso, macchiatos and lattes served in glass.

Where are Duralex glasses made?

Duralex glasses are made in France. The company has produced tempered glass tableware there since 1945, at its factory in La Chapelle-Saint-Mesmin near Orléans. The Picardie tumbler dates from 1954 and is still the brand's best-known design. Since 2024 the business has been owned by its workers as a cooperative.

What size Duralex glass is best for espresso and for a latte?

For espresso, a short macchiato or a double shot, use a 90 ml glass. We stock both the Picardie and Provence in that size. For a latte or flat white, choose the latte glasses, which leave room for the shot plus textured milk. Every size is sold in a box of six.

Do Duralex glasses stack?

Yes. The Picardie and Provence tumblers are designed to stack vertically without getting stuck together. That is one reason they are common in cafés and office kitchens where shelf space is tight. The toughened glass also resists chipping when the glasses are stacked and unstacked through a busy service.

Can Duralex glasses go in the dishwasher?

Duralex tumblers are made for everyday commercial and home use, and the toughened glass is designed to resist chipping, including in the dishwasher. Load them so they do not knock against each other. Avoid taking a glass straight from a very hot wash and filling it with something icy.
