FAQs Jura Coffee Machines
What is the difference between Jura home and commercial machines?
Jura home machines are designed for household use, typically making 2-10 coffees per day. Commercial machines are built for higher volume, up to 150 cups per day, with larger water tanks, bean hoppers, and features like payment systems and plumbed water connections.
Which Jura machine is best for flat whites?
Choose a Jura model with “Flat & Foam” milk capability. The J10 and S8 feature a milk selector that can produce both flat milk for flat whites and textured foam for cappuccinos. The Jura Z10 allows you to program how much flat and foam milk is added to each drink. The E8 and C8 only produce foam milk, which is better suited for cappuccinos and lattes rather than flat whites.
Can Jura machines make cold brew coffee?
Yes, the Z10 and J10 feature Jura’s Cold Extraction Process for genuine cold brew coffee. Unlike traditional cold brew that takes 12-24 hours, Jura’s technology uses controlled pulses of cold water under high pressure to extract flavours from coarsely ground beans in under 60 seconds. The result is a smooth, naturally sweet cold coffee without the bitterness—perfect for hot days.
What is the Sweet Foam function?
Sweet Foam is a feature available on the J10 and S8 (included) and Z10 (accessory). It uses a special attachment that infuses your favourite syrup—such as vanilla, caramel, or hazelnut—into the milk foam during preparation. The result is evenly flavoured, delicately sweetened milk foam that creates café-style flavoured lattes and cappuccinos at home.
Can I use pre-ground coffee in a Jura machine?
Yes, all Jura automatic machines have a bypass chute for pre-ground coffee. This is useful for occasional decaf coffees or trying different single-origin beans without changing your primary hopper. Add one or two level scoops of pre-ground coffee using the included measuring spoon, and the machine will bypass the grinder for that cup. Note: Only use coffee ground specifically for automatic machines; coffee ground for traditional espresso may clog the system.
What is the Pulse Extraction Process (P.E.P.®)?
P.E.P.® is Jura’s patented brewing technology that optimises extraction time for espresso and ristretto. Instead of continuous water flow, P.E.P. pulses hot water through the coffee grounds at short intervals, allowing the water more time to extract the coffee flavours. This results in a more aromatic, full-bodied espresso with better crema—similar to what you’d get from a professional café machine.
What is the J.O.E.® app and which machines support it?
J.O.E.® (Jura Operating Experience) is Jura’s smartphone app that lets you control your coffee machine remotely via Bluetooth or WiFi. You can start brewing from your phone, customise drink settings, save personal profiles, and receive maintenance reminders. Most current Jura home models support J.O.E.® connectivity—the Z10 and J10 include WiFi Connect, while other models can add it as an accessory. The app is free and available for iOS and Android.
How often do I need to clean a Jura coffee machine?
Daily: The machine automatically rinses when turned on and off, and will automatically rinse the milk system after a milk coffee is made. Run the one-touch milk system clean at the end of the day after making milk drinks.
Weekly: Empty and rinse the drip tray and the used coffee grounds container.
As prompted: The machine will alert you when it’s time to run a cleaning tablet cycle (typically every 200 coffees) or to change the water filter (every 2-3 months, depending on usage).
Do I need to use Jura-branded water filters?
We strongly recommend using genuine Jura Claris water filters. They’re specifically designed for Jura machines and use RFID technology (on Smart+ models) to communicate with your machine—automatically activating filter mode, tracking usage, and alerting you when replacement is needed. Using the correct filter protects your machine from limescale buildup, extends its lifespan, and ensures the best-tasting coffee. Different Jura models require different filter types (Blue, White, Smart+, or Pro), so check your machine’s specifications.
Is there a difference in the services offered for Jura home and commercial machines?
Professional services are available for commercial machines, including machine programming, on-site setup, staff training, on-site repairs, scheduled servicing, and loan machines. Home machines come with factory programming that the customer must alter to suit their needs and a base-to-base warranty.
What warranty do Jura home machines come with?
All Jura home coffee machines purchased from My Coffee Shop come with a 25-month manufacturer's warranty. Servicing and support for Jura domestic machines is provided directly by Jura Australia, ensuring expert care from factory-trained technicians using genuine Jura parts.
