The Five Brewing Modes
MD0: Basic Mode
Simple weighing and timing for general use.
Best for: Basic weighing, kitchen use, or when you just need weight and time.
How to use:
- Place the vessel on the scale
- Press tare
- Add ingredients
- Use the timer as needed
MD1: Coffee-to-Water Ratio Mode
Displays live brew ratio as you pour.
Best for: Standard pour-over brewing with ratio tracking.
How to use:
- Place the dripper and vessel on the scale
- Press tare to zero
- Add coffee grounds — the scale records this weight
- Press tare again
- Pour water — watch the ratio update in real-time (e.g., 1:15)
- When you lift the dripper, the scale shows your extracted coffee weight
MD2: Segmented Pouring + Ratio Mode
Track multiple pours with individual and cumulative water amounts.
Best for: Pulse pouring techniques and the 4:6 "Kasuya Method."
How to use:
- Set up your dripper and vessel, then tare
- Add coffee grounds, then tare again
- Pour your first segment of water — the display shows segment weight
- Pause — the scale registers the segment
- Pour next segment — see both segment weight AND total water
- Repeat for each pour stage
- The scale automatically accumulates the total water volume
Tip: This mode is ideal for recipes requiring specific water amounts at intervals (e.g., 50g, pause, 70g, pause, 60g...).
MD3: Espresso Mode
Automatic timer triggered by the extraction flow.
Best for: Espresso shots and continuous café service.
How to use:
- Place your cup on the scale
- Press tare to zero
- Start your espresso machine
- Timer begins automatically when the liquid starts flowing
- Timer stops automatically when the flow ends
- Read your final yield and extraction time
Tip: Aim for a 1:2 ratio (e.g., 18g in → 36g out) in 25–35 seconds.
MD4: Segmented Extraction + Ratio Mode
Combines segmented pouring with extraction tracking.
Best for: Advanced pour-over techniques where you want to track both water poured AND coffee extracted at each stage.
How to use:
- Set up the dripper and vessel, tare
- Add grounds, tare again
- Pour in segments — track water per pour
- Lift dripper to see the extracted coffee weight
- The scale shows both ratio and extraction volume
