Macap grinders and genuine burrs
Macap is an Italian grinder maker based in Maerne di Martellago, near Venice. It began as a mechanical workshop in 1930, and the Macap name (short for Macinacaffè Petiziol) dates from 1978. Macap focuses on grinders for cafés, bars and the home.
The Macap M2E
The Macap M2E is a compact electronic grinder sized for the home, office and small workplace. Macap lists 50 mm flat burrs, a 250 W motor, a 250 g hopper and three programmable doses. Macap says it suits everything from espresso to cold brew. For espresso, pair it with fresh beans from our espresso coffee beans range.
Genuine replacement burrs
We stock genuine Macap burr sets for the M2, the M4 / M5 and the M4D / M5D. The M4/M5 and M4D/M5D sets are listed separately, so check the model name on your grinder before you order. Macap recommends replacing both burrs together.
When to replace burrs
- You keep grinding finer to hold the same shot time.
- Grinding takes longer for the same dose.
- Shots are harder to dial in and taste flatter or more bitter.
- The cutting edges look rounded or shiny, or have chips.
After fitting new burrs, Macap suggests starting coarser and re-dialling, because new burrs cut more efficiently. For home use, Macap recommends a brush-out and vacuum every few months and a full clean with the burrs removed once a year.
FAQs
Is the Macap M2E good for espresso?
Yes. Macap describes the M2E as suitable for every brew method, from traditional espresso to cold brew. It uses 50 mm flat burrs with a 250 W motor and has three programmable doses, so you can set a repeatable espresso dose. It is sized for the home, office and small workplace rather than a busy café.
How often should I replace Macap grinder burrs?
Macap measures burr life by the weight of coffee ground, not by months. Its site does not publish a figure for the M-series, so watch for the signs of wear instead. You have to grind finer to hold your shot time, grinding slows down, the cup tastes flatter, or the cutting edges look rounded or chipped. Replace both burrs at the same time.
Which burrs fit my Macap grinder?
How often should you clean a Macap grinder?
For home or occasional office use, Macap recommends brushing out and vacuuming every few months, with a full clean and burr removal once a year. Busier settings need more: weekly brushing for a small café or daily office use, and daily for high volume. Darker, oilier roasts leave more residue, so clean more often if you use them.
