Choosing Fellow coffee gear

Our Fellow range covers three parts of a home coffee setup: heating water, storing beans and pulling espresso. Each one works best paired with the right beans or grinder.

Stagg EKG Pro electric kettle

A 0.9 L gooseneck kettle built for pour-over. You set the temperature to the degree anywhere from 40°C to 100°C, and hold mode keeps the water there for 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes. It also has scheduling, an altitude setting and Celsius or Fahrenheit display. The slim spout lets you pour slowly and evenly over a filter bed, and the temperature control suits green and white teas too.

Atmos electric vacuum canister

The Atmos pulls air out of the canister to slow oxidation of your beans. The electric lid seals at the push of a button and charges by USB-C, and Fellow rates the battery at about three months of daily use. Use it for whole beans only, because ground coffee can clog the valve. It suits a fortnight's supply of coffee beans on a Subscribe & Save order.

Espresso Series 1 coffee machine

Fellow's first espresso machine uses a 58 mm bottomless portafilter and a 15-bar pump calibrated for up to 9 bars of extraction. It has programmable pressure profiling with pre-infusion and three heating elements (flow-through heater, boiler and grouphead heater), and Fellow says it is ready in two minutes or less. A temperature-sensing steam wand stops at your target milk temperature. You will need a grinder that can grind finely enough for espresso: see our coffee grinders and espresso coffee beans.

FAQs

Does a vacuum canister like the Fellow Atmos keep coffee fresher?

Yes, it slows staling. Coffee goes stale mainly through oxidation, and the Atmos removes air from the canister to reduce it. The electric version seals with one button press and shows a visual indicator when the vacuum is locked. Fellow suggests re-sealing every four to five days to keep the vacuum strong. Store beans whole and grind just before brewing for the best flavour.

Can I store ground coffee in the Fellow Atmos?

No. Fellow advises against storing ground or powdered products in the Atmos because the fine particles can clog the vacuum valve. Fellow says this may also affect the warranty. Use it for whole beans, loose-leaf tea or nuts. If you buy pre-ground coffee, an airtight bag or container kept out of light and heat is the simpler option.

What temperature range does the Fellow Stagg EKG Pro cover?

The Stagg EKG Pro heats water anywhere from 40°C to 100°C, set to the degree, and can display Celsius or Fahrenheit. Hold mode keeps water at your chosen temperature for 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes. That range covers pour-over coffee, which is usually brewed just off the boil, as well as cooler temperatures for green and white teas.

How do I clean the Fellow Atmos canister?

Hand wash only, because the Atmos is not dishwasher safe. Wipe the electric lid with a damp cloth and keep water out of it. Never rinse the lid under a running tap. Wash the canister body with a soft, non-abrasive sponge and mild soap. The gasket and filter can be removed and washed separately.

Is the Fellow Espresso Series 1 made for Australian power?

Fellow lists a 220–240V, 50Hz, 1700W version of the Espresso Series 1 on its Australian site, which suits Australian power outlets. The US model runs on 110–120V, so check the voltage if you are buying from overseas. The machine also has a 2 L removable water tank and a companion app for creating and sharing pressure profiles.
