- Flexibility - Coffee strength, milk and water quantity can be adjusted to suit personal preference cup by cup.
- Milk choice - Limited to 2 types of dairy milk unless the model has a built-in steam wand or you add a steam wand accessory.
- Waste - There is no wasted coffee or milk.
- Mess - No cleaning is required throughout the day.
- Cleaning - An automatic clean is performed at the end of the day (1 min).

- Plumbing - Connection to plumbing and drainage is usually required. Some models can operate from a built-in water tank.
2) Capacity
Choosing a coffee machine for your office is a significant decision. Selecting a machine that can handle the demand is crucial, as this directly impacts the machine's reliability and longevity. Each machine is rated based on the number of staff and the number of coffees per day it can make. For instance, in an office of 100 staff, the average number of coffees consumed per day is around 100. This includes staff members who drink one or more coffees, as well as non-coffee drinkers and client coffees. To ensure the machine is working within its rating, it's advisable to select a model with a greater staff rating than the number of staff you currently have and expect to have over the next 3-5 years. This also allows for any unexpected growth in staff numbers. Upgrading the machine is always an option if needed.
3) A Steam wand or Automatic milk system?
Like your favourite cafe, a steam wand lets you steam milk in a jug. While it does require some training, the benefits are worthwhile. You can steam any milk, be it regular, lite, soy, almond or oat, and have complete control over the foam level and temperature. Despite some leftover milk and a jug to wash, the process allows for a personalized touch and can be a satisfying experience.
An automatic milk system offers a convenient solution to the milk steaming process. It effortlessly draws milk from the fridge, heats it, adds air for foam, and dispenses it directly into the cup. Operating quietly without creating a mess or waste, this system is a time-saver. If you have a (2 x 2 litre) milk fridge with milk lances, you can choose from various milk types without the hassle of pulling tubes out of the milk. The fridge can accommodate 2 x 2-litre cartons and a 1-litre UHT carton.
The WMF models have a built-in steam wand, while the Jura models do not. However, you can add a WPM ProSteam to a Jura machine for manual milk steaming.
4) Chocolates & Mochas
Do you need a machine that makes automatic chocolates and mochas? The WMF range all make automatic chocolates and mochas. To make chocolate on a Jura automatic or manual machine, add 2 - 3 teaspoons of drinking chocolate to some hot water and stir until dissolved. Use the machine to add the milk, either the automatic milk system on a Jura or the steam wand on a manual machine.
5) Water Tank or Plumbed In?
Some models operate from a built-in water tank only, some must be connected to plumbing/drainage, and some provide both options. Connecting the machine to plumbing and drainage reduces machine maintenance throughout the day, as the water tank does not need to be filled, and the drip tray does not need to be emptied. The water filtration system also eliminates the need to descale the machine. Please note that descaling can also be eliminated using tank water filters on tank water machines. A water tank model is the best option if plumbing and drainage are unavailable. There is also a plumbing cost associated with connecting the machine to mains water/drainage, and the mains water models are more expensive.
6) Space Requirements
To check if you have the bench space available for a machine, go to the machine's specifications table. There, you will find the bench width required for the machine by itself and for the machine with a milk cooler/fridge. You will also see the height clearance required above the benchtop. If you have overhead cupboards or shelves, measure the distance between the benchtop and the bottom of the cupboard/self.
