The milk is not drawing / spluttering

Milk not drawing or spluttering can be caused by a milk solid blockage in the milk frother or by using a non-dairy milk such as soy or almond. These milks are often more viscus than a dairy milk and will not dispense smoothly. If the milk frother is clean and you are using a dairy milk, the temperature setting may be too high and need to be reduced.

Firstly ensure the milk frother is clean, to do this please perform the weekly cleaning procedure (See instruction folder) and run the cleaning brush though the milk and steam paths. Also check that the clear milk outlets are not blocked, the machine came with 2 spare clear milk outlets and spares can be purchased here

Adjusting milk temperature

Each milk drink has a temperature setting (1 – 10) for the flat and the foam milk components. Check to see which drink / drinks are spluttering and if it is the flat milk part, the foam milk part or both.

Change temperature setting for the drinks that are spluttering by following the steps below.

1. Enter the program (P key)
2. Move to the 3rd screen using arrows (3/5)
3. Select ‘Expert mode’
4. Select the coffee you would like to change – Use arrows to scroll
5. The milk settings are on the 2nd page – Move to the 2nd page using the arrows
6. If the flat milk is spluttering, select the milk temperature and reduce the setting by 1
7. If the foam milk is spluttering, select the milk foam temperature and reduce the setting by 1
8. Save change
9. Test the drink. If the milk is still spluttering repeat steps 6 – 9.

Notes:
1. Make sure the milk frother is clean before adjusting temperature.
2. Make sure you are using a diary milk – Full cream, lite or lactose free.
3. Maintain the milk frother by performing the daily and weekly milk system cleans. The daily clean must be done at the end of the day.
4. Always pour your coffee into a preheated cup. A cold cup will take 5 – 10 degrees of the temperature of your coffee.

The machine is leaking

Please check the following:

1. The water tank is fitted correctly and there are no coffee beans under the water tank.

2. There are no cracks in the drip tray.

3. The leaking water is not coming from the milk fridge and making it way under the coffee machine.  If it is, turn the milk fridge off for 1 hour to defrost.  The ice on the evaporator will melt onto the bench top.  Dry this up and turn the fridge back on.

4. Dry up the water and check to see if the water was just spilt and not from a leak.  Please note, the water tank must be removed from the machine for filling.customers.

I have an empty drip tray message

Empty tray messages are normally caused by cleaning product residue on the drip tray metal contacts located on the back of the drip tray.

Please follow the steps below:

1. Remove the drip tray and observe the machines display.
2. If the display shows ‘Drip tray missing’ the problem is the contacts on the drip tray.
3. Run hot tap water over the drip tray metal contacts for 20 seconds to wash off any residue.
4. Refit the drip tray and check the display.

I have a fill system message

Please follow the steps below.

1. Remove the water filter from the tank.

Manual Machine Troubleshooting

Troubleshoot your issue using the steps below or download your machine manual.

Low steam pressure

If your steam pressure has reduced over time, it will likely be caused by a build up of milk solids in the steam wand tip holes.

Follow the steps below:

1. Remove the steam wand tip and soak in one measure of espresso clean and very hot water for 60min. Check the steam holes are clear and re-test.

2. If the pressure has not improved, remove the water filter in the tank and test. If the pressure has improved, replace the water filter.

In order to maintain the steam wand tip:

1. Wipe down the steam wand and fire a shot of steam after each use.

2. Remove and soak the steam wand tip in espresso clean when you soak your coffee baskets and portafilter on a weekly or fortnightly basis

Low water flow from group head or hot water tap

Follow the steps below:

1. Remove the water filter and test the flow from the group. If the problem has been solved, replace the water filter.

2. Perform a back flush with espresso clean. This should be done on a weekly basis to prevent the accumulation of coffee oils blocking the group sieve. If this improves the flow, perform a second back flush and re-test.

3. Test the brew pressure with a blind basket in place. This should be between 9 and 10 bar. If you are getting this pressure, the machine is working ok.

Low pressure when making espresso

Follow the steps below:

1. Remove the water filter and test the flow from the group. If the problem has been solved, replace the water filter a new filter.

2. Perform a back flush with espresso clean. This should be done on a weekly basis to prevent the accumulation of coffee oils blocking the group sieve. If this improves the flow, perform a second back flush and re-test.

3. Test the brew pressure with a blind basket in place. This should be between 9 and 11 bar. If you are getting this pressure, the machine is working ok.

4. When brewing coffee ensure you have the correct dose of coffee for your basket using a digital scale that can weight down to 0.1 grams. You want the dose to be within 0.2 grams of the basket size.

5. Ensure the coffee grounds are evenly distributed in the basket before tamping. To do this gently tap the side of the basket and use a distribution tool if you have one.

6. Aim for a yield of 2 to 1. E.G. for 18 grams of ground coffee aim for 36 – 40 grams out in 25 – 30 sec. If the coffee is pouring too slowly, grind courser. If the coffee is pouring too fast, grind finer.

Grinder Troubleshooting

The motor is running but it is not grinding

You have have adjusted the grind fineness to be too fine, causing the burrs to jam. To resolve this follow the steps below.

1. Adjust the grind fineness to be coarser, depending on your grinder you may need to adjust it by a significant amount to un-jam the grinder. Re-test.

2. If you grinder can be disassembled and cleaned at home you can resolve the issue by cleaning out the burrs & shoot.

The grinder is jamming before I can reach the correct grind fineness

If this is the case you may need to replace your grinder burrs.

No or low steam from steam wand tip

If there is no steam or low steam pressure from the steam wand tip it will most likely be blocked with milk solids.

Please follow the steps below:

2. Operate the steam wand to test if the tip is clear.
